Our first Golf Getaway was up North, where the group was based at Waitangi. The courses we played all had their own uniqueness and kept the group challenged each day. Kerikeri was first off the blocks and proved a good starting course. Whangaroa was next and unfortunately we only managed 9 holes here before the only wet weather of the fortnight beat us back into the club house – but not before one of the locals shared a bottle of sherry with us! Blue skies were back as we played Waitangi, which showed off the beautiful scenery and coastline that adorn the back nine of this course. Our final round was at Kauri Cliffs and once again, blue skies made the day special and memorable.
Our Napier Golf Getaway followed straight on, allowing some of the group to do both Getaways back-to-back. Staying in the centre of Napier proved convenient for dining in the evenings. Hastings (Bridge Pa) & Napier were our first two rounds and were flatter/different from the courses played up North, but equally pleasing. Maraenui kept us entertained in preparation for the main event at Cape Kidnappers. We had a stunning day here, with the weather as perfect as we could have hoped for. It wasn’t all golf, as we had a free day in the middle of each week, allowing for a bit of sightseeing. It was great to see the new additions on the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and a number of us were moved with the overall experience there. As mentioned above, we are planning to repeat these Golf Getaways, so if you would like to join with a small group of like minded golfers and play these lovely courses, keep an eye out for the Autumn dates coming out soon.
