ARGENTINA GOLF TOUR REPORT

February 28, 2024

The Iguazu Falls is a sight to behold. We had the opportunity to view the Falls from many different angles and the smaller falls that make up the whole. A real highlight is the boat trip that takes you right up to various parts of the Falls and literally takes you under the flow of the warm water cascading down on top of you. Needless to say, you get soaked, but dry off quickly in the heat!
We visited the Falls about two thirds of the way through our tour. Starting in Buenos Aires with a city tour and the ‘must visit’ Recoleta cemetery during an unexpected heat wave for the city was a hot start  – the following golf days also proved very warm but the group managed to survive! Maybe it was the huge steaks that were served up at the welcome dinner that got us through. Pillara and Buenos Aires golf clubs got us off to a good golfing start before we flew down country to Patagonia & San Martin dos Andes. Here it was thankfully cooler. The scenery was getting more dramatic and an unexpected city birthday parade gave us an evening of enjoyment as just about every service and organisation operating in the city marched down the main street whilst we watched and had dinner! Two more rounds of golf here – Chapelco was wonderful, but the Greg Norman El Desafio course took our breath away, despite only 9 holes having been finished. The completed course in a year or so will be a ‘must play’ for all passing through.
Taking the Seven Lakes scenic route from San Martin down to Bariloche allowed us to see the dramatic scenery of this area of Argentina. Once there, we enjoyed the luxuries of the Llao Llao hotel and its golf course. Another round at the Arelauquen course and we were away up to Iquazu. Still further north, we found our way to Salta and took the road through the stunning gorge to Cafayate, where we played our final round of golf. A days trip out to the Salt Flats took us over the highest point of the Andes at 4,100 metres before descending to see the flats. This is also the area, Purmamarca, where the mountains of seven colours are, with a picturesque village at the bottom of them. Our time was now up, but not before we had a whistle-stop tour in the Tigre delta, very near Buenos Aires, before heading to the airport and home. Memories that we went home with – inflation at 200%, a country in change mode, the wads of peso notes that we carried around with us, the size of the steaks, the Greg Norman course and the great company we travelled with. Make your own memories on our next trip there, likely to be March next year. Drop us an email to register your interest.
