Golf

The Long Thanh Golf Club is regarded as the best golf course in Vietnam. The Club is situated about 40 minutes from the centre of Saigon on the Vung Tau spur road and offers 36 holes of golf. Each course offers panoramic views over the surrounding countryside to Saigon in the west and rural landscape in all directions. Each hole has its own characteristic shape and unique view that offers a wide variety and a separate challenge to both novice and professional.Fairways are lined with beautiful oil palm trees and other similar species. The emphasis being on evergreen is to keep the course in pristine condition throughout the year. Paspalum fairways and tees are surrounding Tiwarf greens. The rough is cut to a short length so that ball searching can be kept to a minimum. Features rolling fairways and large undulating greens, with many bunkers and water hazards to catch errant shots!

The Tuyen Lam golf course was Canadian designed and sits in a deep valley. It is located on the eastern shores of the Tuyen Lam Lake and is surrounded by large mountains and towering pine trees; which makes for excellent scenery and year round cool golf weather. Many of the holes play from elevated tees to tight fairways. Drivers can be kept in the bag in most cases as accuracy over distance is favored. Greens are well guarded with gentle slopes and feature all Bent grass. Fairways are normal Bermuda grass.

Built as a 9-hole layout in 1922, it took support from the country’s most prominent golfer (Bao Dai, the last emperor of Vietnam) to finish the construction of a full 18-holes later in the decade. The Dalat Palace golf course was abandoned after WWII and revived in 1959. In early 1966, Dalat palace hosted professional golfers from around the world including Billy Casper several months before he beat Arnold Palmer to win the U.S. Open at San Francisco’s Olympic Club. The course was abandoned again in 1975, after the reunification of Vietnam, and initiated its second comeback in 1993 with a major renovation by a group of American investors. In early 1994, Dalat emerged once again as one of the up-and-coming golf destinations in Southeast Asia with the revival and expansion of Dalat Palace Golf Club. The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip was designed to capture the true essence of links-style golf. Set on the coastline — as almost all great links courses are — The Bluffs is routed over and around towering sand dunes, which have been shaped over thousands of years by the elements. The wind plays a major role in the experience here; it’s always strong, and its prevailing direction differs depending on the time of year.

Said the course’s designer, Greg Norman: “The experience of playing true links golf among the dunes of southern Vietnam and having dramatic ocean views throughout your round will make The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip one of the most unique golf experiences in the world.”
