Travel insurance is not an ‘extra’ but nowadays it is almost mandatory that you have travel cover for when you travel. I often get asked whether the insurance cover offered free with your credit card will ‘do’ instead of getting a stand-alone comprehensive travel insurance policy. The key here is not only to compare what cover is being offered, but also the value of that cover, to ensure you don’t miss out if you have to make a claim. A number of policies now will not charge an excess on claims, whereas some policies will charge an excess for each section of the insurance you claim under. This could save you hundreds of dollars in the event of a claim. Whatever you do, and whichever insurance you go for, just make sure you have cover in place, because you never know what could be around the corner! If you need travel insurance, even if it’s not for one of our tours, we’d be happy to quote – we deal with two of the main providers in the country, Covermore and Kiwi Holiday Insurance.
